River Bend Nature Center (RBNC) is a 78 acres of undisturbed woods, wetland and nearly 4,000 feet of riverfront along the Root River in eastern Racine County. Its focus is on environmental education and outdoor recreation for families. Operated as a nonprofit corporation RBNC offers two rustic buildings for meeting space and education and an outdoor pavilion. There is also a network of marked hiking trails that are used for cross county skiing and snowshoeing in the winter months. Skis and snowshoes are available for rent. In the summer and fall (May through October), RBNC rents canoes and kayaks. RBNC hosts special events throughout the year. Its Sugarin' Off Pancake Breakfasts (February and March) feature maple syrup made from the center's own trees. The Annual Chainsaw Art Festival (October) features wood carvers from throughout the region. RBNC is open daily from sunrise to sunset.
